Our Birdwatching Tour in Matagalpa takes you into the cool cloud forests of northern Nicaragua, one of the country’s richest regions for birdlife. Surrounded by lush forests, coffee farms and mountain landscapes, Matagalpa is home to hundreds of bird species, making it one of the best birdwatching destinations in Nicaragua. Together with an experienced local birding guide, you’ll walk through forests and nature reserves while learning how to identify birds by their colours, songs and behaviour. Keep your binoculars ready as you search for colourful toucans, motmots, hummingbirds, tanagers, woodpeckers, and, with a bit of luck, the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal, one of Central America’s most sought-after birds.
Every Birdwatching Tour in Matagalpa is different. The early morning hours are the best time to spot birds as the forest comes alive with movement and birdsong. Along the way, your guide will also introduce you to the local plants, towering trees, and unique cloud forest ecosystem that make this region such an important habitat for wildlife.
This tour is about slowing down and appreciating the sounds, colours and rhythms of nature. Whether you’re hoping to add new species to your life list or simply spend a morning surrounded by the beauty of Nicaragua’s cloud forest, the Birdwatching Tour in Matagalpa is an experience you’ll remember long after you leave.

We really enjoyed our stay at casa mundo verde. Our room was comfortable and we appreciated having hot water for the shower. The breakfast included was nice and we also tried the passionfruit cheesecake which was delicious. Leo and Margarita were great hosts and I highly recommend choosing Casa Mundo Verde for your stay in Leon.Posted on Google![]()

I assume the rooms are very good, as is their service, coffee and help with tours and anything you would like to do in and around León and further beyond. The place is run by local guide Leo and Dutch Margarita. Highly recommended to enquire after the guided tours of León. Also the best coffee in town. And smoothies.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()
