Why This Trip
Wildlife, wetlands and nature
The Los Guatuzos Wildlife Refuge is one of Nicaragua’s most important protected areas and a paradise for nature lovers. We’ll explore the reserve by boat, quietly navigating through rivers and wetlands while searching for monkeys, caimans, turtles, colourful birds, and many other species that call this ecosystem home. If conditions allow, we’ll also stretch our legs with a short hike through the reserve, learning about its unique biodiversity from our local guide.
After exploring Los Guatuzos, we continue by boat to the peaceful Solentiname Islands, an archipelago famous for its relaxed atmosphere, stunning sunsets, and rich artistic heritage. Here you’ll enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, meet local families, and experience life on the islands far away from the busy tourist routes.

Why This Trip
Experience the culture of Solentiname
The Solentiname Islands became internationally known through the work of Ernesto Cardenal, the Nicaraguan poet, priest, artist and peace activist who founded a creative community on the islands during the 1960s. During the tour, you’ll visit places connected to his remarkable story and see how his vision continues to shape island life today.
You’ll also take part in a traditional balsa wood handicraft workshop, where local artisans teach you the techniques that have made Solentiname famous throughout Nicaragua. As the day comes to an end, we’ll head onto Lake Nicaragua for a beautiful sunset boat tour, watching the sky change colours while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere that makes these islands so special. The 3 Days Solentiname & Los Guatuzos Tour combines nature, wildlife, history and authentic local experiences into one unforgettable journey.

I assume the rooms are very good, as is their service, coffee and help with tours and anything you would like to do in and around León and further beyond. The place is run by local guide Leo and Dutch Margarita. Highly recommended to enquire after the guided tours of León. Also the best coffee in town. And smoothies.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

We stayed 4 nights in Casa Mundo Verde and Leonel & Margreet completely transformed our experience of Leon simply by being so nice and so helpful. They organize cooking classes with traditional Nicaraguan food, walking tours and other activities. They work together with other tours so they were able to arrange anything we asked for. We were lucky to be in town during the traditional feast of Gritaria Chica, and Leonel instantly created a walking tour to allow the guests to experience the feast like a local. We had a lot of fun getting to know the tradition and collecting candies. If you are lucky enough to have half our experience in here, you're in for a great time. Oh, and they run in place a nice coffee shop, with very good local coffee and delicious cakes. Our room was also very nice, it was large, very clean and very comfortable beds. This is a very new place, it opened just a month ago, but I believe it will be one of the most popular in a short time.Posted on Google![]()
