Why This Trip

The mountains of Northern Nicaragua

The 4 days North Nicaragua tour takes you to the beautiful highlands of Matagalpa, where cooler temperatures, mountain views and lush cloud forests create a completely different side of Nicaragua. During the tour, you’ll hike through the Macizo de Peñas Blancas Cloud Forest, a unique ecosystem that captures rainwater and supplies fresh water to much of the surrounding region. Along the trails, you’ll discover hidden waterfalls, incredible viewpoints and an amazing variety of plants and wildlife while your local guide explains how this special environment works.

No visit to northern Nicaragua is complete without experiencing its coffee culture. As the coffee capital of Nicaragua, Matagalpa is home to some of the country’s best coffee farms. During your visit, you’ll follow the journey from coffee plant to cup, learning about harvesting, drying, roasting and brewing before enjoying a freshly prepared cup of locally grown coffee. It’s the perfect way to understand why Nicaraguan coffee is loved around the world.

I assume the rooms are very good, as is their service, coffee and help with tours and anything you would like to do in and around León and further beyond. The place is run by local guide Leo and Dutch Margarita. Highly recommended to enquire after the guided tours of León. Also the best coffee in town. And smoothies.

Absolute Empfehlung!

A very nice new place in León. Good location, hygienic, friendly people, and their coffee is the best. We were also happy with the price/quality and their great breakfast.

We stayed 4 nights in Casa Mundo Verde and Leonel & Margreet completely transformed our experience of Leon simply by being so nice and so helpful. They organize cooking classes with traditional Nicaraguan food, walking tours and other activities. They work together with other tours so they were able to arrange anything we asked for. We were lucky to be in town during the traditional feast of Gritaria Chica, and Leonel instantly created a walking tour to allow the guests to experience the feast like a local. We had a lot of fun getting to know the tradition and collecting candies. If you are lucky enough to have half our experience in here, you're in for a great time. Oh, and they run in place a nice coffee shop, with very good local coffee and delicious cakes. Our room was also very nice, it was large, very clean and very comfortable beds. This is a very new place, it opened just a month ago, but I believe it will be one of the most popular in a short time.

Where does the tour start?

We offer pickup from Leon, making it easy to start your adventure.

Northern Nicaragua has a mild, spring-like climate year-round. Temperatures typically range between 16°C to 26°C (60°F to 79°F). It’s cooler than most parts of Nicaragua due to its mountainous location. The dry season runs from November to April, while the rainy season lasts from May to October, bringing lush green landscapes and afternoon showers. It’s a great destination to escape the heat of the lowlands.

The tour includes transportation, accommodation, guided activities, most meals and visits to the highlights of northern Nicaragua.

Northern Nicaragua is home to colourful birds, monkeys, butterflies, reptiles, orchids, and many other species that thrive in the cloud forest.

We recommend comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing, a rain jacket, insect repellent, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, long shirt and pants and ofcourse your camera.
