The Flor de Caña Tour takes you behind the scenes of one of Nicaragua’s most iconic brands. We pick you up in León and drive about 45 minutes to the Flor de Caña distillery in Chichigalpa, where you’ll join a 1.5-hour guided experience through more than 135 years of family history and rum-making tradition. During the tour, you’ll learn how Flor de Caña has been producing premium rum for five generations, using locally grown sugarcane and naturally aging its rums at the foot of the active San Cristóbal Volcano. As you make your way through the six interactive stations, you’ll learn how rum is made, from sugarcane and molasses, to barrel aging and bottling. You’ll visit the original 1890 locomotive, explore the ageing cellars, discover how oak barrels influence flavour, and see why Flor de Caña has become one of the world’s most awarded rum brands.
At the moment the tour only runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please keep in mind that we need to make the reservation for this tour in advance to secure your spot.
The highlight of our Flor de Caña Tour is, of course, the tasting. Throughout the experience you’ll sample different rums and learn how ageing creates the unique aromas and flavours found in each bottle. Whether you prefer a smooth sipping rum or want to understand the differences between younger and older reserves, this is the perfect opportunity to experience Nicaragua’s national spirit in the place where it’s made. Before returning to León, you’ll have time to visit the Flor de Caña boutique, where you can find exclusive bottles, gifts, and locally inspired products that are only available at the distillery.
